The American Reading Council is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Texas. Our mission is to promote literacy and literature, connect readers with writers, build safer communities through reading, develop good choices through reading, build confidence through reading, and advocate for intellectual freedom. Through book events, festivals, workshops, town halls, classes, and forums, as well as incorporating the power of America’s pastimes like music, movies, and sporting events, we strive to revolutionize how reading is perceived across America’s diverse geographic landscape.

Our flagship events include the Trinity River Book Festival, Literary SoulFest and the Missouri River Literary Festival, which capture heritage, history, culture, and contemporary writing while fostering connections among families. These events also serve as platforms to raise environmental awareness.

One of our largest fundraisers is Dock Community Impact Fund & Run-to-Read, a 5k walk/run event that kicks off our festival activities. We heavily rely on corporate sponsorship, donations from organizations and businesses, as well as contributions from families and individuals who recognize the importance of building a literate community.

We are committed to promoting literacy for all and creating opportunities for people to engage with literature in meaningful ways. With your support and partnership, we can continue making a positive impact on communities across the country.
